Hi,

No plans for Stella 7 at the moment; except for newer versions of everything I've found EL7 a lesser desktop than EL6, until that changes I am not sure what to do.

Anyway, Stella is just EL + epel + nux-dextop really, so if you just install CentOS 7 and add those repos, you're all set.

Hi Nux,

I haven't been on here since 2014. Just downloaded CentOS 7.2 and Stella 6.7 for comparison. CentOS has drastically changed their desktop and placement of menus and icons. Very hard to work with! After boot it idles at about 750 MB with no applications running. I see that Stella still has that familiar and very efficient desktop and idles at only 200 MB! WOW! The desktop is similar to MATE which I have been using since late 2011 after Ubuntu went to Unity. I would NOT change the Stella desktop. It is so easy to work with. Keep up the good work!

Dear NUX. World need STELLA 7.
My little story. I from 3D industry. I am use only Stella last release for desktop and render nodes, because it working perfectly from box. It make for people, not servers, this is very well tuned in the details, there is no need to touch the settings after installation. But now a large number of software requires a modern environment then 6.x can provide. I am need Stella without fucking Gnome 3, lagging PulseAudio and other crappy shit. Stella with right working third-party repos, atcual current conditions, that I need! Not dumb Fedora, not systemd sexual perversion in Debian-based distros. Pleaase!

Hello, I understand where you are coming from with your request, but you have to understand Stella is little more than CentOS + EPEL + nux-dextop. You can have Stella 7 today, just make sure you have those 3 installed. Smile

Even so, CentOS 7 comes with Pulseaudio and I am not sure it's possible to uninstall it, it's a big dependency.

Stella/CentOS 6 comes with Pulseaudio, too. How is this working for you?

What exactly is too old for you in Stella 6?

Stella 6 after installation does not require small triks and improvements in comparison with Centos 6. I have not run for a long time (yes, I do not need it) Centos 6, but I remember that when I was suffering in Centos with drivers and other trifles, I saw the phrase on the 3d forum Just give Stella a chance - Download Stella - setup Stella - WOW I need only nvidia driver setup!

Yes, it is! But only in Stella I`m not have a laggy sound in Autodesk Motionbuilder, The Foundry Nuke Studio and other, then Centos 7 always and sametime in Centos 6 if I get lucky. I tried it in different hardware configuration, worked version was only with Stella always. I am not programmer, I am not found dependencies, but I saw it. Autodesk said that you need to install the Centos 7.2 which they changed and everything works. But.... It distro specialised for some HP workstation. Anyway, Centos 7 have a crappy Gnome, and I will tell about this further

So, more and more software begin to requried GLIBC 15 and newer. The Foundry MODO 9 can start in 6 version, but MODO 10 not. More and more manager software required not supported libraries. Some video editor like Shotcut say me /lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.15' not found, and centos forum responds to this "just upgrade to 7 version".

What can I say about Stella 7 of my dreams. This again must be a complete instrument, like Stella 6 version, like Kalashnikov.
When you think about your main work, then not about flashplugin install, or third-party software, because everything is here, everything is adjusted, everything is exposed, even nfs install from box. Do your work, not setup.
We not need Gnome, it is workstation, not a tablet, MATE or other DE we need to work, not for beautiful shadows and crazy animations. Fedora have a FEDY utility, this is a great utility, but why in Fedora you can not immediately have a good font display, or that the flash also worked immediately?

Ok mate, I'll take your argument into consideration.

Perhaps there is need for a Stella 7 after all. This will take some time though as my job is keeping me busy and I need to get more acquainted with how I could build a similar live image with same settings on CentOS 7.

Thank you very much for your attention. I really hope that you have enough strength and free time again to make a 7 version for humans. Anyway, thank you for Stella 6!
