Can you open it in a terminal, maybe some useful errors will be output. Also, what are you trying to convert and to what?

Launching from terminal and clicking "Create Conversion" gives this output:

That's weird. I just "yum install" arista and it works great. I only get this error which seems harmless:

"** Message: pygobject_register_sinkfunc is deprecated (GstObject)"

How did you install it?

You must be missing some package, that HAL related one seems important..

BTW HandBrake can be used to transcode, as well, until we get Arista working.

I reinstalled CentOS this time using KDE-live.iso through usb method ( dd if=KDE-live.iso of=/dev/sdb oflag=direct bs=1048576).
I am using priorities:CentOS-base.repo < EPEL-beta.repo < Nux-dextop.repo
I still have the same issue.

Can you try to
yum groupinstall "MATE Desktop"

I may be installing the unknown (as yet) dependency that you need.

Can you make sure python-gudev is installed? From my searches it might seem it is a dependency. Let me know how it goes.

I think python-gudev is the problem.
I have updated the arista package to require it.

Let me know if you have further problems.

KDE:

Now I get different message when clicking "Create Conversion":

[kleo@dhcppc0 ~]$ arista-gtk
** Message: pygobject_register_sinkfunc is deprecated (GstObject)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/arista-gtk", line 514, in on_add

File "/usr/bin/arista-gtk", line 1063, in __init__
self.setup_source()
File "/usr/bin/arista-gtk", line 1138, in setup_source
model.set_value(iter, 0, theme.load_icon(icon, size, 0))
glib.GError: Icon 'gtk-cdrom' not present in theme

Abrt reported: Arista Transcoder crashed
arista-gtk:1138:setup_source:GError: Icon 'gtk-cdrom' not present in theme

MATE: Clicking on "Create Conversion" showed dialog as expected!

I think the icon error is related to the theme, try changing the theme to something else. This should not be a "fatal" issue. Works great for me in Gnome3.
