i have a fully updated 64bit 6.5 stella w/ a seiki 39" 4k/uhd tv that is stuck in 1024x768 rez. i've downloaded the driver from nvidia but don't know how to proceed (extension is *.run)

Version 340.24
Release Date Tue Jul 08, 2014
Operating System Linux 64-bit

please point me in the right direction, ie websites, how to's, etc. thanks. currently back to using 4K in win 7 ultimate and would like to get back to stella.

Hi,

Please don't use the .run files from Nvidia. ElRepo has the drivers nicely packaged for CentOS.

Do the following:
yum install nvidia-detector

Then run
nvidia-detect

This will tell you what package to install, e.g.
$ nvidia-detect
Probing for supported NVIDIA devices...
[10de:0de2] NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 420]
This device requires the current 340.24 NVIDIA driver kmod-nvidia

Then install the recommended package e.g.

yum install kmod-nvidia

Reboot and that's it.

Don't panic, press ctrl+alt+f2 or ctrl+alt+f3 to go to a terminal, log in as root and do a:
yum clean all
yum reinstall kmod-nvidia
reboot

And dont cut the power this time. Smile
