Hi nux,
I have seen that you are working hard to bring us Mate. Very good news. Smile
Is Mate already working on Centos7 or is it in progress?

Kind regards

Upps, I am confused. The packages for Mate are in the repo > Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 7 - x86_64 Embarrassed

Hello,

Indeed the MATE packages are provided by EPEL and they are available for EL7.
They are functional and I already have a couple of machines running with MATE. Very Happy

yum groupinstall "MATE Desktop"

Thanks for your reply.
My machine is running with Gnome. I am not sure, if I am getting in trouble by installing Mate.
I tested it with another distro and I had trouble with the Gnome packages after installing Mate.
Do you have any knowledge with CENTOS 7?

As far as I can tell Gnome3 and MATE seem to coexist peacefully.

This is the way I do it.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
MATE is available through the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL] repository, maintained by the Fedora Project. This
should work on CentOS 7 as well, and any other compatible derivatives.
After you install the epel-release-7*.rpm package to add the EPEL repository to Yum, you can install MATE with the following command:
yum groups install "MATE Desktop"
If you install this on a minimal system without an existing GUI configured (such as a GNOME or KDE desktop), you might want to install the X Window System
group as well for local graphical logins:
yum groups install "X Window System"
you may also want to change the default systemd target to graphical:
systemctl set-default graphical.target

That should work and at the GDM (login manager) screen once you input your username you should be able to click on the "settings" icon and choose the desires session, either Gnome, Gnome Classic or MATE.

I know, thanks. I choose Mate at the GDM, but I get a login with Gnome-Classic and I dont know why it happens.
Should I write an entry in custom.conf ??

Hi gents
Been following your discussion. Installed MATE along side CentOS7 and having no issues. Responding here using Luakit from the Mate menu. I like this a lot better than Gnome3. Really fast and simple..

@detipco
I have both lightdm and gdm installed and no problem like yours. Did you choose to use lightdm at some point? or did you always use gdm?
