I have to install drivers for my printer/scanner manually. Here is the output.
---
root(pts/1) /usr/src/cannon_mg5500/scangearmp-mg5500series-2.20-1-rpm $ ./install.sh
==================================================

ScanGear MP
Version 2.20
Copyright CANON INC. 2007-2013
All Rights Reserved.

==================================================
Command executed = rpm -Uvh ./packages/scangearmp-common-2.20-1.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libpangox-1.0.so.0()(64bit) is needed by scangearmp-common-2.20-1.x86_64
---

Where could I get that libpangox file?

Thx

The package seems to be no longer provided. Look here https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/32117
Maybe you can try an older pango-version. http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/3/limit/4/srodzaj/1/dl/ 40/search/libpangox-1.0.so.0%28%29%2864bit%29/field%5B%5D/1/ field%5B%5D/2

We have to live with this karma.

Hi detipco

Thanks for those links. I'll dig around and see what I can turn up.
I should have been a little more careful before I bought this printer. Canon doesn't
even provide the linux drivers. I had to find one elsewhere, and I don't know how old it might be.
I can print, but none of the other features.

I don't think I'll be blaming linux though. Very Happy
If I need the full features of the printer, like any other hardware, I can always boot
up into windows. Crying or Very Sad

yum provides "libpangox-1.0.so.0()(64bit)"

pangox-compat-0.0.2-2.el7.x86_64 : Compatibility library for pangox
Repo        : epel
Matched from:
Provides    : libpangox-1.0.so.0()(64bit)

I recommend you use "yum install" instead of "rpm -Uvh", it will resolve the dependency for you.

Well, that was all about Centos7. Stella6.5 is a different story, but everything is still aok. Smile

The driver installs OK, but the scanner won't work with Simplescan or anything else I tried. But, I discovered that the driver package provides a ui for the scanner; /usr/local/bin/scangearmp
That works with Stella6.5

Just a little update for the benefit of yet unborn Stellaeans...
