I got a special issue, seems to be some gremlins in my system.
All DVD`s are playing fine and shown as mounted in file-manager.
Now I have a DVD from Peter Gabriel/New Blood.
The DVD is playing with SM-Player, but it is not shown in file-manger.
I tried it with mc, but I can`t find the place, where this DVD is mounted, but it`s running with SM-Player. Rolling Eyes

SMplayer may have a cache directory setup somewhere to provide hidden temporary mount points?? Audio type media don't always show up because they dont have a readable filesystem.

Sorry don`t understand the difference between a DVD with a movie and a DVD with a concert.
Both DVD`s have an audio and a video folder. (_ts)
In the video-folder are the .vob files.

Sorry to tell it, but I`ve tested it with a "frozen" PCLOS and it worked.
I can see the DVD mounted in Caja.
In my CENTOS 7 DVD`s are normally mounted in /run/media/user

You could try the mount command to see if the DVD will mount...
mount -t iso9660 /dev/DVD /media/cdrom

If it wont you'll have to figure out what to use to satisfy the -t (fstype) requirement.

mount: can't find /media/cdrom in /etc/fstab

How can SM-Player play this DVD, when it isn`t mounted???

Enough for today, will look further tomorrow.

You would first have to create the mount point /media/cdrom.

Another mystery... Try the command...
/usr/bin/cd-info (you might have to install libcdio)

The CD usually shows up in the file browser (mounted), but...
How does the CD get mounted and where is the mount point?

So now I`ve tested the DVD / music-video with Stella and some other distros.
All distros doing it similar. The DVD is mounted in /media and so it will shown in the filemanager.

Centos 7 seems to handle it in a different way, which is strange for me and I don`t know why. Rolling Eyes
It is possible to play the DVD and to open it in (for example) Brasero.
I`m not able to find out, where Centos 7 is mounting the DVD and so I can`t see what is in Audio_ts and video_ts.
Maybe I`m too stupid to find out, how this OS is doing it. Confused

I tried this:
# Entry test for dvd
/dev/dvd /media/dvd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0

and some other ways, nothing works. Evil or Very Mad

I dont know about Centos 7. I gave it a good look, but I'm staying with Stella6.5 as long as it is supported. These issues with media disks baffle a lot of people. It's hard to find even a reliable ripper application.

You are soo right.
There are many strange things in Centos7, which are very different to other distros.
Can`t understand the people doing it in this way. Shocked

Very Happy Now I can see this crazy DVD from Peter Gabriel/New Blood, if I want in caja or nautilus.

In fstab I drop :
# Entry for cdrom
#/dev/sr0 /media/cdrom udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0

In nautilus is the DVD now shown as cdrom and it`s playing as before without mounting Cool
When I mount cdrom, I can see the files shown in nautilus. Smile

Issue not solved, but it works. Very Happy

Sorry but I`ve forgotten something important!
The entry must be deactivated before rebooting, otherwise the system will not boot.

Hi,
searching a long time for the culprit of the issue, now I found the culprits.

libmount-2.23.2-22.el7_1.1.x86_64.rpm
libblkid-2.23.2-22.el7_1.x86_64.rpm

Those two libs are changing the behaviour and there is no way to rollback.
Only way is reinstalling and prevent updating. (may cause some other libs !)

Another way works too, but because of some changes while updating it will not work with VLC !! All other players are working as awaited.

# Entry for cdrom fstab
/dev/sr0 /media/dvd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0

This entry does not cause a failure while booting like this entry (#/dev/sr0 /media/cdrom udf,iso9660 user, noauto 0 0).

Happy crafting Smile

It is only a compromise solution.
Cool Maybe it will be not allowed in the future to access DVDs with a filemanager!?
I have checked it with another rpm based distro and it was very interesting after several newinstallings.
At last I have pinned the following packages:
gvfs
libgvfs0
libblkid1
libmount1
libuuid1
(=util-linux-ng)

All cdroms I checked worked like before and are shown in nemo or another one. Update those packages, nope Evil or Very Mad
Don`t understand why so less people notice it?

Cheers Smile

Hi,
I have found a guy, who noticed it too.
He is the only one, who is preventing it in his distro and that makes me wondering. Rolling Eyes
THX to Clement Lefebvre.
