I want to install the CentOS with xfce or mate rather than Gnome since I use some heavy development applications in my system, so I don't want my system to be slow. I saw some tutorials on the internet for the same but they were showing just to install xfce not removing gnome.

Although some people tried to do so but they faced problems when they removed complete gnome from the operating system. So, is it possible to completely wipe out gnome environment and install xfce or mate?

Thanks

Hello,

It should be possible to remove some of the Gnome stuff, but not all as it would cause problems.
My advice is to install MATE and use it and just ignore Gnome.
