Hi, I am new to linux, and I have couple questions.
Can stella read and write on ntfs partitions?
How to install amd ati drivers?
How to setup 5.1 surround sound in pulse or alsa (if pulse is default sound server on stella)?
Thanks for help.

yes, it does that out of the box.

yum install kmod-fglrx (and optionally)
aticonfig -f --initial

I'm not entirely sure since I don't own a 5.1 system, possibly from Sound Preferences > Hardware > Profile.

You're welcome.

I follow the directions here:
http://elrepo.org/tiki/kmod-fglrx

Not sure if this is the correct driver I need to install. The thing is, I install it like the directions say and reboot and I get a black screen after the boot screen with the circle and it just gets stuck there. Not sure what needs to change.

I have a Thinkpad T500 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

Anonymo,

Just "yum install kmod-fglrx" should have done it.
Can you specify which packages you installed and what architecture you're using?

I did yum install kmod-fglrx on the 64-bit version.

Hi,

I'm also using kmod-fglrx, here's what I have installed:
rpm -qa|grep fglrx
fglrx-x11-drv-12.4-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64
fglrx-x11-drv-32bit-12.4-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64
kmod-fglrx-12.4-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64

So can you make sure you have all these packages: fglrx-x11-drv fglrx-x11-drv-32bit kmod-fglrx

And also please check that /boot/grub/menu.lst vmlinuz entries contain this:
radeon.modeset=0

If you want a graphical boot-up process you can also preppend vga=791 to the vmlinuz line,
